WHO WE ARE

Reaching hearts, restoring hope, building communities.

OUR HISTORY

Mount Elgon Upendo Outreach for the Needy (MEUON) is a community-based Non-profit organization established in 2023 by Mr. Musisi Benard to respond to the social, economic and environmental challenges affecting vulnerable people and underserved communities around the Mount Elgon slopes in the Sebei region of Eastern Uganda, particularly in Kapchorwa District.

MEUON was founded on the belief that sustainable development requires more than addressing individual needs. It requires empowering families, strengthening communities, protecting children, creating opportunities for women and young people, and conserving the natural environment on which many local livelihoods depend.

Our work recognizes the interconnected challenges of poverty, limited access to education, food insecurity, unemployment, environmental degradation and increasing climate-related pressures. These challenges affect not only individual children but also households, farmers, women, young people and entire communities.

Through our education initiatives, including Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School, we work to promote learning opportunities and child wellbeing. Beyond education, we seek to extend our reach through humanitarian assistance, community development, environmental conservation, climate resilience, skills development, women’s empowerment and sustainable livelihood initiatives.

We believe that protecting the environment is inseparable from improving people’s lives. Communities need healthy land, sustainable agricultural practices, reliable livelihoods and the capacity to respond to environmental changes. Similarly, lasting improvements in children’s wellbeing depend on stronger families, food security and supportive communities. MEUON therefore pursues an integrated, community-centred approach that responds to immediate needs while supporting long-term resilience and self-reliance.

Guided by compassion, inclusion, accountability and community participation, we seek to work with local communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners and other stakeholders to build practical and sustainable solutions.

Our commitment extends beyond child sponsorship. We aspire to be a catalyst for positive change, helping children, families and communities create a future defined by dignity, opportunity, environmental responsibility and shared prosperity.
