OUR FOUNDER

Reaching hearts, restoring hope, building communities.

A JOURNEY FROM ADVERSITY TO COMMUNITY SERVICE

My journey began in a family that struggled to provide even the basic necessities of life, including food for the children. Growing up, I experienced firsthand the hardships that poverty and hunger can bring to a family. There were times when well-wishers stepped in to support us with food and other necessities when we had little or nothing.

My education journey was equally challenging. I walked long distances to reach school and was frequently sent out of class because my family could not afford school fees and other essential scholastic materials. These experiences exposed me to the painful reality of how poverty can deprive children of educational opportunities and affect their ability to concentrate, participate, and compete with their peers.

Despite these challenges, I remained determined to pursue my education and build a better future. Through perseverance, resilience, and the opportunities I received, I became the first graduate in my family. Today, I hold several academic and professional qualifications that once seemed beyond what many people imagined I could achieve.

MY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Record Keeping and Information Management
  • Diploma in Project Planning and Management
  • Certificate in Administrative Law

These achievements represent more than academic success. They remind me that a person’s circumstances should not determine the limits of their future.

The Experience That Inspired MEUON: Having experienced poverty, hunger, and educational disadvantage firsthand, I came to understand that many vulnerable children and families need more than sympathy. They need opportunities, practical assistance, advocacy, and people willing to stand with them.

I witnessed how lack of food, school fees, and scholastic materials can interfere with a child’s education, development, confidence, and ability to reach their potential. I also experienced the difference that the kindness and generosity of well-wishers can make in the life of a struggling family. These experiences inspired me to establish Mount Elgon Upendo Outreach for the Needy (MEUON) in 2023. My vision was to help build an organization that could reach vulnerable children, households, and communities, mobilize support for their needs, and advocate for opportunities that enable them to live with dignity and hope.

MY VISION FOR MEUON

Through MEUON, I seek to contribute to a future in which poverty does not prevent children from accessing education, hunger does not undermine their growth and learning, and vulnerable households are not left without opportunities to improve their circumstances.

Our work extends beyond individual assistance. It embraces education, child support, humanitarian assistance, women’s empowerment, youth skills development, and environmental conservation, with the broader goal of building stronger and more resilient communities.

I believe that sustainable change is possible when communities, well-wishers, development partners, institutions, and individuals work together with a shared commitment to human dignity and opportunity. My personal journey continues to remind me why this work matters. The challenges I experienced are part of my history, but they have also become a source of purpose: to help ensure that other children and families have opportunities that poverty might otherwise deny
